A HALL FOR THE CITY

Our project for the square in Santander starts in the thinking of the essence of ceramics.  The ceramic material par excellence is the ceramic brick and, in our opinion, the best way to use it is in the wall construction. Because of that, our propose goes to be a harmonic composition based on lineal elements which essential meaning is the brick bond.

The whole intervention is solved with ceramic bricks, granite in the floor and wood for the large windows.

First of all, we have analyzed the surrounding area, the mainly axis and the influence of the most important buildings. Also, we have detected that there is a confusing functional circulation system in the current square. Likewise, we think that there are some opportunities in the intervention place in order to connect the city with the sea.

As a result, we propose to sink the square. This decision lets us to get a unitary square, leaving the necessary circulations above.

In order to match those three levels that we get (hillside, street, square), we propose a great wall which hides the vertical communication. In the opposite side of the project, we set a staircase which can be used as a grandstand for events.
